The Meta-verse is a digital ecosystem that merges virtual realities (VR) and physical realm. It projects a tremendous shift in digital evolution, characterized by persistent, and immersive virtual ecosystems that blend artificial intelligence, extended reality (XR), block-chain, Internet of Things (IoT), and future generation networking technologies. This manuscript introduces and explains an advanced and systematic overview of the Meta-verse by synthesizing multidisciplinary research across computing, education, marketing, smart cities, finance, manufacturing, and communication systems. It adopts a qualitative review approach to synthesize existing literature on the Meta-verse, investigating its technologies, applications, and challenges. Based on the 47 foundational studies reviewed, it examines conceptual meta-verse definitions, technological foundations, ecosystem stakeholders, sectoral applications, governance concerns, and emerging future trends. The studies indicate that while the Meta-verse produces unprecedented opportunities for immersive learning, decentralized economies, intelligent urban management, and human-centric digital interaction, it highlights complex challenges related to security, privacy, interoperability, sustainability, governance, and socio-ethical implications. A conceptual framework is proposed to integrate technological infrastructure, ecosystem actors, application domains, and governance mechanisms into a unified model. The study ends with strategic recommendations for innovation, policy harmonization, and sustainable Meta-verse development and advancement.
